Clinical Waste

Clinical waste is defined in the Controlled Waste Regulations of 1992. Clinical waste includes any waste arising from medical, dental, pharmaceutical, or other similar healthcare practises. Listed are some examples of clinical waste:

  • Syringes, needles or other sharp instruments which, unless rendered safe, may prove hazardous to any person coming into contact with it  
  • Drugs or other pharmaceutical products
  • Swabs or dressings
  • Human or animal tissue
  • Blood or bodily fluids
